Question:
fav Diane and Kurt scene?
- Anonymous -
Answer:
I’m not gonna lie anon, for reasons I can’t explain I’m completely incapable of naming just one, even though I actually have a definite favourite. I just felt so bad not listing a couple of other scenes that I love, so I made it a list. You probably won’t believe me when I say this but I really tried to narrow this down to a top 5 but I kind of didn’t feel like sleeping last night and well… This is not what you asks for anymore but I sort of figured that this is still my blog and so I can do whatever I want with it. And last night I apparently felt like ranking twenty McHart scenes. Anyway… enjoy this.
(Disclaimer no. 1: There are so many more great ones that I would’ve liked to name, but this post is going to fuck up everyone’s timeline as it is, so let’s save the idea of me rating every single McHart scene for a point in time where we actually have access to all McHart scenes that will ever exist and then I’ll just destroy tumblr and we’ll all live miserably ever after)
(Disclaimer no. 2: Also please keep in mind that I finished this list at 7 in the morning, I haven’t slept in 24 hours, so it probably won’t even make sense to me as soon as I’ve gotten some sleep)
(Disclaimer no. 3: Apparently tumblr only allows me to put up to ten images in one post (which is rude af in my humble opinion), so I’m going to have to post this gradually in reblogs. I hope it won’t end up being too chaotic)
(Disclaimer no. 4: The vast majority of the following gifs wasn’t made by me. I’m not claiming that they’re mine and if anyone would like me to credit them or take their work off this post, feel free to dm me any time!)

20. The One Inspired by Roy Cohn (3x02 TGF)
The one where Diane comes home after work and Kurt has knotted ribbons around their beer bottles because he’s just straight up a lovesick idiot.
This scene, you guys… it’s the gift that keeps on giving because I will never stop mocking Kurt for his inability to tie a simple bow. It gave us domestic McHart. It gave us a great kiss. It gave us “Hans and Franz, your safari buddies” and “baby zebra bbq”, two of the best things Diane Lockhart has ever said on both shows. It made “Mrs McVeigh” canon. It just deserved a spot on this list.
19. Silver Bullet (2x15 TGW)
The one where Kurt really wants to go on vacay with the idiotic overworked love of his life and tries to talk her into it by agreeing to make it a marriage proposal, because he probably thought, “Huh. Might as well tie the knot [you know, because he’s physically capable of that] while we’re at it 🤷🏻♀️”, aka the one where McHart completely owns the idiots in love trope.
This is not going to surprise a single person out there who’s part of the fandom because I’ve been going on and on and on about McHart and Costa Rica for years now, and I won’t let anyone hear the end of it. Never. Never ever. You’re welcome, world.
Anyway, iconic scene. Deserved a spot.
18. The Wheels Of Justice (4x19 TGW)
The one where Diane short-circuits Kurt’s brain by merely walking into the same room he’s in.
Also the one where Kurt bursts out laughing at the idea of working on the Colin Sweeney case because it’s just so ridiculous: him, the “I don’t take on guilty peoples’ cases because I have moral standards” guy working on a Colin Sweeney case, a man who’s killed approximately 78352 of his wives. Ridiculous… Laughable… Exactly up until Diane bats her eyelashes at him and smiles very sweetly and asks him, “Just do it for me?” while tilting her head aside and yeah, the next scene he’s in he’s working on the case.
Also the one where the joke’s on Kurt.
Underrated scene. Deserved at least three-hundred emmys in the category of “entertaining idiots who deserve an emmy or three-hundred”. Didn’t get the emmys but did get a spot on this list. And I’d say that’s close enough.
17. Day 492 (2x13 TGF)
The one where Kurt said “Go to hell” to a couple of FBI agents and Diane reacts by fucking him while said FBI agents can hear them through the bugs they put in their house.
I honestly don’t know where to begin with this scene, I actually tend to completely block it out of my mind because I always feel like it’s something we collectively hallucinated as a fandom. But I’m glad I remembered it in time before I finished this list because it’s just a god tier scene and the kiss is absolutely perfect and the way he blushes is adorable and the way she smiles at him melts my heart and I’m rambling now but you get it. You get it.
16. Previously On… (5x01 TGF)
The one where Kurt pulls Diane aside from a room full of people to privately tell her that RBG has died because he doesn’t want her to find out in an environment where she feels like she has to keep herself together when she really can’t and he tells her in a way that almost makes me tear up right now as I’m trying to describe it and he just really wants to be there for her in a moment where he knows she needs him to ground her, as he always does, and Diane, thinking this still has anything to do with politics for him, argues that he doesn’t have to pick up those pieces because he doesn’t share her beliefs, and Kurt tells her that he can still feel bad for her because this is about them, about his love for his wife who he knew was going to be crushed by this and he genuinely just wants to be there for her because he cares, and she says that she doesn’t deserve him and she calls him “babe” in a way I never expected this stupid word to be able to break my fucking heart, and they hug and it’s honestly my no. 1 favourite McHart hug so far and now that I’m writing this, I’m realising that this scene deserved to be so much higher on this list but I literally don’t have the energy to change it again, so you’ll just have to act like this is actually in the top five, along with the other five because numbers don’t actually make a lot of sense anyway.
What a scene. I need a glass of water.
15. The One About The End Of The World (3x10 TGF)
The one where we probably got the peak of domestic McHart and Diane’s hair is messy and they’re both wearing pyjamas and Diane says she loves Kurt and she also says “British, blah blah blah” which is just hilarious, and they’re on the couch and they’re just so married that I almost cannot believe it but I won’t doubt it for a second because it’s not like my body could possibly function if it wasn’t true.
I just love this episode. I have my fair share of complaints about season 3, but this episode? I loved it so much. It’s one of my all time favourites. And I make silly little noises whenever I watch this scene. Absolutely deserved a spot.
14. Day 457 (2x08 TGF)
The one where Diane and Kurt argue in the conference room.
Guys, I love this scene as much as I hate it. Christine Baranski’s acting is so insane, I sometimes don’t even believe she’s a real person. The way her voice breaks when she says “Don’t you fucking come any closer to me”? It’s so raw, it’s so painful, it actually breaks my heart every time I watch it. This scene portrays a dynamic between Diane and Kurt, a vulnerability in especially Diane that we don’t ever see outside of it again. It’s the scene I always picture when I write McHart fighting in my fanfics. And I know that the day I manage to even capture a glimpse of this feeling I get when I watch it in my writing, I’ll know that I’ve done a decent job.
13. Running (1x23 TGW)
The one where Kurt tells Diane that he has feelings for her and she smiles so sweetly at him that it would actually make me vomit if it were any other couple but them.
I just love this scene. It probably didn’t deserve to be listed as high but I really don’t care because I just like it so much. I love that Diane is wearing flats and jeans and a leather jacket. I love the way she moves around his property like they’ve basically established at this point that she can really feel at home there. I love how Kurt just straight up tells her that he has feelings for her because that’s just who he is, he’s not one to make a fuss about it because there’s no reason for him to do so, and I love how Diane is just once again being the complete opposite of him and partly teasing, partly visibly touched starts to make a fuss about it. I love this small moment we got of their early relationship because this is really the only one that we got before it just disappeared completely for half a season and basically ‘ended’ off-screen.
It’s just a lovely scene. And it deserved to be ranked this high.
12. Day 457 (2x08 TGF)
The one where McHart broke my fucking heart and I genuinely haven’t recovered from it since.
This one is painful. And what I’m saying is that it actually physically hurts me to watch it. The way they look at each other in this scene is honestly the most heart-breaking thing I’ve had the audacity to put myself through during my personal history of watching television. I love this scene. I hate it, too. The acting is absolutely stellar on both sides, there’s barely any dialogue, Diane actually says nothing at all, but as Sarah Steele once said, Christine Baranski absolutely knows how to nail a close up. That last shot of her in this scene where she’s tearing up and it’s just the right amount of teary, because Diane would never cry in court and she also would not cry in front of Kurt in this situation, but there’s this layer of tears that she can’t hold back that shines in her eyes, and her posture is so stiff that she looks even more uncomfortable, and you see her swallowing in a way that actually causes your own throat to tighten because in that moment, it’s like she is going through all the pain you’ve ever felt, she’s going through every terrible feeling you’ve ever experienced, she’s just the picture of devastation and I have no idea how she did it because I’ve seen so many films and shows and no one, really no one else touched me with their acting like she did in that scene. It’s such an extraordinary moment, the way it’s filmed, the way it switches between close-ups of them while the States Attorney keeps talking and you can’t even bring yourself to listen to what he’s saying because you’re right with them in their bubble, in the eye contact they both know they can’t bear and they still have to, and it even feels like you owe it to them not to be able to listen to what’s happening in the rest of the court room. Because this is their moment, their rock bottom, it could never get worse than it did in this exact moment and watching it both feels like you’re massively invading those characters’ privacy, and as though you have to really be there, to really watch and to really feel their pain because they’re still inviting you to share it with them.
I just realised that this might sound completely mental to anyone who is not quite as invested in those characters but I don’t really care. I think lots of you guys know exactly what I mean. And this scene, while incredibly hard to watch, deserves to be named one of my favourite scenes of them.
11. Henceforth Known As Property (1x04 TGF)
The one where Diane basically says that the fact that she wasn’t able to have children with Kurt haunts her every single time she looks at him.
What a blast. 10/10 needed that kind of pain in my life, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you Robert and Michelle for ruining me that way. This scene also spurred on a bunch of things I wrote and it hurts every time I think about either of them, or this scene. Life is beautiful.
10. Verdict (7x21 TGW)
The one where Diane is begging for Kurt’s forgiveness and she lies behind him and he takes her hand and at first she’s crying and then she actually starts sobbing and it’s honestly the most emotional we’ve seen her since she was muffling her sobs in her office, minutes after she basically found the corpse of her best friend. You know what, actually it’s the most emotional we’ve ever seen her because in this scene, she’s allowing herself to cry whereas in 5x16 she didn’t do that. She couldn’t. She was at her firm, she had to be the boss, the strong leader, she couldn’t show weakness and she could not allow herself feel her pain. But in this scene, she’s with Kurt. And she knows that she can trust him, no matter how hard she’s fucked up. She just knows that when she’s with him, she won’t ever have to wear a mask and act strong when she’s not.
And I’m also just an emo bitch which is why I’ve ranked this scene so high. Yeah.
9. Outside The Bubble (5x04 TGW)
The one where Diane is late and Kurt - by his standards - is absolutely losing his mind, he’s visibly at that point where I personally would frantically tweet about setting myself on fire while listening to glee songs.
Also the one where he gives her calla lilies, a five seconds long sequence that has done permanent damage to my brain.
Also the one where Diane says “Always” and people who have read enough of the bullshit I put out on the internet know I’m one of those bitches who fall head over heels for couples who have any kind of “Always” thing going on.
Also the one where they make out in public and the other couple in the hallway whistles at them.
Oh, and also the one where they get married lmao.

What does my cat think when I kiss his little head? Does he know it’s affection or does he think I’m trying to eat him
These questions are totes why I follow you, top quality content right here
It’s important!
Well it depends. Do you try to put ketchup on him before kissing his head, that would change things :P
Yes. I put ketchup on my cat before I kiss his head.
Fun bit of info!
Kitties rub their heads against their chosen people as a method of scent marking, but not of ownership. Instead, they’re getting their scent on you because they know that you’re a family, but you smell “Funny” compared to them. They’re trying to make you smell like their family.
If your cat allows you to kiss their little head, it’s because they’re accepting -your- scent, and being part of your family.
Ketchup included.
This is a good note, thank you
This why they boop you. :)
Fact:
In animals that have communal grooming as part of their behavior, sticking your face in their face for kisses/boops doesn’t bother them at all because they know you’re not going to eat them.
But, with frogs (and other animals you shouldn’t be putting your mouth on) that do not have communal grooming there’s a high chance their first reaction will be “plz don’t eat me” before realizing you do not mean them any harm.
Also; if you accidentally step on a cat or a dog, or accidentally pinch/hurt a smaller pet and after they squeak or yelp you start petting them and trying to reassure the animal that you weren’t trying to hurt them they’ll understand that. Puppies and kittens get a little too rough with their play, but when a litter-mate ends up squeaking because they got hurt the puppy or kitten will stop playing so roughly and switch to kisses/licks as a way to apologize before they go back to playing.
When humans act the same way, and do not hurt them again it registers as “oh that wasn’t on purpose” and the animal quickly forgives you.
It’s the animal equivalent of “Don’t tell Mom!”
This is also good to know, thank you!
Thank fucking god
THANK FUCKING GOD.
THANK FUCKING GOD
